DNA for registration application -
The MGBA registry no longer submits DNA. Members are responsible for their own DNA processing and are required to deal direct with the DNA company. Send in your MGBA Animal registration application with a copy of the results of animal’s DNA from the University of Queenslands confirmation letter which will detail the animals details and UQ # approval number. The DNA approval UQ number and reference details will then be used for your animals registration. Include any parents DNA evidence if not registered with the MGBA if you require to use for pedigree.

You can request DNA kits directly and the DNA processing Application form is available on their website (OR MGBA version below can be used). Just click on the goat picture and your there. http://www.animal-genetics.lab.uq.edu.au
The cost per animal is $38.50 ( $35.00 plus GST $3.50 ) Hair sample (root on) for DNA profiling. Please check their website for updated price changes as they occur.
The LAB processes DNA 4x per year ( January, May, August and October ) and processing takes place in the last full week of those months. The Lab will hold your DNA material until processing time. When the Lab has processed your DNA they will send you an invoice and once payment has been received they will send you your results with individual PDF certificates for each animal via email.

SPREADSHEET CASE NUMBER LIST YOU WILL NEED FOR YOUR APPLICATION FORM IS BEING PUT TOGETHER AT THE MOMENT. If you require a case number please contact your registrar.

DNA Pending

SHOWS
If you are wanting to show your animal while you are waiting for your DNA results to come back from animal genetics lab you may send in your registration paperwork and photo/fees to your registrar. The registrar will issue you with a provisional certificate (with expiry date) allowing your animal to show under MGBA show rules.
Registration Applications must be with the registrar and processed awaiting DNA (please allow time for our volunteer registrars to process and do not leave until the last minute). The owner will then have an expiry date of certificate from the time of DNA processing by the University to provide and confirm DNA results. Failure to do this will mean instant disqualification of animals from all shows they have competed at and removal of Australian Champion points as per MGBA show rules. DNA results to be sent to the registrar you sent your registration paperwork to. Show animals will then be verified by a designated person.

IMPORTANT ***** When MGBA Breeders have been notified results of animal’s DNA from the University of Queensland they are required to email the Registrars a scanned copy of the University of Queensland confirmation letter. which will detail the animals details and UQ # approval number. The DNA approval UQ number and reference details will then be updated by the Registrars on Premium Breed.

SALES - Sales prior to DNA being obtained.
Registration certificates will NOT be generated for DNA pending animals. Animal registrations with DNA pending are not complete prior to proof of genetics being obtained. Members cannot transfer an unregistered animal via the MGBA registry.

Percentage breeding is accepted at any level. The percentage of each parent is added together and divided by two to give the offspring percentage.

Example 1:- First cross 50% bred to First cross 50% = (50 + 50) divide 2 = 50%.
Example 2:- First cross 50% bred to Second cross 75% = (50 + 75) divide 2 = 62.5%.

Percentage breeding is accepted with Australian Miniature Goat.
Example 3:- First cross 50% bred to Australian Miniature Goat = (50% + 0) divide 2 = 25%.
This pairing is also accepted as First cross 50% (equivalent Grade B) bred to Australian Miniature Goat (Grade?) = offspring one Grade higher than lowest Grade parent.
